BOSS
The SafeOSS team is happy to introduce a new kind of open-source software license that provides a well-deserved commercial reward to open-source community efforts. The Business Open-source Software (BOSS) license is an open-source multi-contributor copyright license. It combines features of permissive, copyleft, and copyright licenses which can be summarized in the following diagram:
The BOSS-licensed software product or component will have the following sample lifecycle:
When you partially or fully transfer the copyright of BOSS Product A to a new copyright holder (e.g., intellectual property or company share sale, a startup exit), each contributor must receive a fee which must be mutually agreed between each modified copyright holder and the direct derivative work author throughout the "fork chain". The BOSS fee concept is specified in the diagram:
